A Complex Luminosity Function for the Anomalous Globular Clusters in NGC 1052-DF2 and NGC 1052-DF4

چکیده
NGC1052-DF2 and NGC1052-DF4 are ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) that were found to have extremely low velocity dispersions, indicating they little or no dark matter. Both host anomalously luminous globular cluster (GC) systems, with a peak magnitude of their GC luminosity function (GCLF) is $\sim1.5$ magnitudes brighter than the near-universal value $M_V \approx -7.5$. Here we present an analysis joint GCLF two galaxies, making use new HST photometry Keck spectroscopy, recently improved distance measurement. We apply homogeneous photometric selection method combined sample DF2 DF4. The shows remains at -9$ mag. In addition, find subpopulation less GCs -7.5$ mag, where located. number in range $-5$ $-8$ $7.1_{-4.34}^{+7.33}$ $8.6_{-4.83}^{+7.74}$ DF4, similar expected from other same luminosity. total between $M_V$ $-11$ $18.5_{-4.42}^{+8.99}$ for $18.6_{-4.92}^{+9.37}$ calculated background-subtracted GCLF. updated both $37^{+11.08}_{-6.54}$. do not scale halo mass either suggesting $N_{GC}$ directly determined by merging halos.

Keck Imaging of the Globular Cluster Systems in the Early – type Galaxies NGC 1052 and NGC 7332
The presence of two globular cluster subpopulations in early–type galaxies is now the norm rather than the exception. Here we present two more examples for which the host galaxy appears to have undergone a recent merger. Using multi–colour Keck imaging of NGC 1052 and NGC 7332 we find evidence for a bimodal globular cluster colour distribution in both galaxies, with roughly equal numbers of blu...
متن کاملNGC 1052 – A study of the pc - scale twin jet
We present results of a VLBA multi-frequency study of the pc-scale twin jet in NGC 1052. We observed this object at epoch 1998.99 with the VLBA at 5, 8.4, 22 and 43 GHz both in total and linearly polarized intensity. The spectral analysis confirms the necessity of a free-free absorbing medium, obscuring the innermost part of both jets. At 5 GHz we found a compact linearly polarized emission reg...
متن کاملThe shroud around the twin radio jets in NGC 1052
We discuss multiple Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) continuum and spectral line imaging observations and Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope spectroscopy of the compact variable nuclear radio jet source in the elliptical galaxy NGC 1052. Absorption and emission signatures reveal ionised, atomic, and molecular components of the surrounding medium. Ten epochs of Very Long Baseline Array...
متن کاملDense Plasma Torus in the GPS Galaxy NGC 1052
We report results from nearly simultaneous pentachromatic VLBI observations towards a nearby GPS galaxy NGC 1052. The observations at 1.6 and 4.8 GHz with VSOP, and at 2.3, 8.4, and 15.4 GHz with VLBA, provide linear resolutions of ∼ 0.1 pc. Convex spectra of a double-sided jet imply that synchrotron emission is obscured through foreground cold dense plasma, in terms of free–free absorption (FF...
متن کاملEvolutionary History of the Elliptical Galaxy NGC 1052
We have obtained Keck spectra for 16 globular clusters (GCs) associated with the merger remnant elliptical NGC 1052, as well as a long-slit spectrum of the galaxy. We derive ages, metallicities and abundance ratios from simple stellar population models using the methods of Proctor & Sansom (2002), applied to extragalactic GCs for the first time. A number of GCs indicate the presence of strong b...
